Knowsley College Sensory Room
Knowsley Community College approached Rompa in early 2016 to develop a sensory room that met the wide range of needs of the students for a new campus opening September of that year. Working together we developed a fantastic Snoezelen Multi-Sensory Environment that is loved by both students and teaching staff. "From initially discussing the needs of our students and then engaging the professional services of ROMPA to design and install our sensory room the process has been seamless. "The room is used by profoundly disabled people many of whom do not communicate with others. They come into the sensory room and they are like completely different people. People who are hard to engage and connect with come into the room and come out of their shell – different people have their own favourite product so it is really flexible.
We use themes on the interactive floor and interactive lighting system to teach about the real world. For example at Christmas we will have a Christmas theme on the interactive floor, have Christmas music on and even bring physical Christmas related items into the room to help our students to understand."
