The Illuminate programme is based on the Cognitive Stimulation therapy approach and supports current guidelines to meet standards for dementia care. It aims to preserve memory, abilities and independence by carrying out a variety of purposeful activities and sharing practical strategies or useful lifestyle modifications that can help individuals to live better with memory loss.

It was the outcome of a collaboration of four different memory loss programmes in conjunction with a university research project. The programme is warm and welcoming, yet carefully designed to specifically address important memory loss concerns at the earliest stage. It is based on 10 themes: Camaraderie, Social Interaction, Laughter and Humour, Support from Family and Friends, Physical Exercise, Mental Exercise, Creative Work, Engagement with the Environment, Memory Techniques and Education regarding Memory loss.

The resource is in a pick-up-and-go format with everything required for delivery presented in a simple ring binder so professionals, nurses, social workers and therapists can implement the activities and curriculum easily.
